Morbius Wiki: Morbius is a 2022 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics that stars Morbius: The Living Vampire, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel.
It is the third film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, and it is distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing (SSU).
It stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson, and is directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
Morbius becomes a living vampire after curing himself of a rare disease in the film.
Sony began developing a film based on Morbius after announcing plans for a new shared universe of films based on Spider-Man characters, beginning with Venom (2018).
By November 2017, Sazama and Sharpless had written a script, and Leto and Espinosa had officially joined in June 2018. Work began in earnest at the end of the year, with additional casting, with production set to begin in London in February 2019. Filming was confirmed to be finished by June 2019.
Morbius premiered on March 10, 2022, at the Plaza Carso in Mexico City and is set to be released in the United States on April 1, 2022, after being delayed several times from an initial July 2020 release date, primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Critics panned the film, with many calling it uninspired and dated, though Smith’s performance received some praise.

Morbius Review: Morbius, Jared Leto’s second attempt at portraying a comic-book character, has received mixed reviews.
The film has a dismal 20% rating on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 50 reviews. The film will be released in theatres on Friday.
The film was postponed several times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but Sony, the film’s studio, saved it for the big screen.
Morbius is the third installment in Sony’s Spider-Man film franchise (which, mind you, does not include Spidey yet). Venom and its sequel were released before this one.
Morbius, directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, stars Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliant, award-winning scientist who undergoes a dangerous, experimental treatment involving the use of vampire bat DNA to cure a rare blood disease.
Instead of being cured, he becomes a monstrous being with pseudo-vampiric abilities such as superhuman strength, super speed, accelerated healing, flight, etc.
Morbius also stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
Here are some of the essential reviews:
In his review for the Globe and Mail, Barry Hertz expresses his hope that “Morbius will be retconned to the margins of superhero cinema history.” If the film doesn’t first bury the genre alive.”
Kevin Maher of the New York Times called the film “the cinematic equivalent of Murphy’s Law,” calling it an “appalling superhero snooze-fest.” It’s a film devoid of dramatic tension, originality, narrative coherence, compelling characters, or even a vaguely human performance.”
“Morbius does eventually become a cluttered slugfest, as all things must,” said Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson of the film. However, it is a stylish, intriguingly toned story about a man attempting to thwart mortality.”
“Mostly, the film occupies a strange no-man’s-land of the sprawling Spider-Verse, not charming like the Spider-Man films, not funny like the Venom films, and certainly not technically impressive like the animated “Into the Spider-Verse,” wrote IndieWire’s Kate Erbland.
One of the few positive reviews came from Screen International’s Tim Grierson. “Morbius,” a monster movie with a bit of bite, is elevated by some spirited performances and director Daniel Espinosa’s sure hand with familiar comic-book material.
Chris Bumbray of JoBlo’s Movie Network also gave it a thumbs up. It was described as “a modestly scaled launch for the character that succeeds thanks to Leto’s performance.”
It should be noted that negative reviews are common for Spider-Verse films. The first Venom film was panned by critics (30%), and the second received a more mixed response (58 percent).

Morbius is a Sony/Marvel collaboration based on the Marvel comic book character Morbius, the Living Vampire. Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) is an astute scientist who suffers from a rare blood disease. Nearing death and desperate for a cure, he seeks a perilous cure in a bat-infested cave.
Dr. Morbius returns home after a miraculous recovery and begins to experience supernatural powers such as fighting and a thirst for blood.
The film’s tone is likely similar to Venom (another Sony/Marvel film), so parents should expect horror action and darker imagery than films in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
