West Bengal: Victor Banerjee, Ustad Rashid Khan on Padma list, Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, Pt Anindo Chattopadhyay refuse

West Bengal’s Victor Banerjee and Ustad Rashid Khan are on the Padma Shri list, but Sandhya Mukhopadhyay and Pt Anindo Chattopadhyay are not.

Kolkata: Bengal awarded Padma honors to Victor Banerjee, Prahlad Rai Agarwala, Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Kali Pada Saren, and Kaajee Singh on Tuesday, while singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay and tabla player Pt Anindo Chattopadhyay declined the Centre’s nomination to confer Padma Shri on them.

On Tuesday morning, Chattopadhyay declined the award. He is a Farrukhabad Gharana tabla player and a Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh disciple. He was the youngest tabla player to perform in the House of Commons 20 in 1989, and he received the President’s Award in 1970 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2002.
